Sports

Physical culture was an important social topic and a popular health movement in the early 20th century. Exercise was considered a key element of national well-being, education, and political unity.

Like in many Finnish towns, Loimaa had separate sports clubs for the working class and the bourgeoisie. The first sports field of Loimaa area was built in the market town, completed in 1930. After World War II, another sports field was established in Hirvikoski (near the church).

Loimaa sports clubs have won several Finnish championships. Loimaa Bisons ranks among the most successful basketball teams in Finland, while Hurrikaani-Loimaa won the 2024 men’s volleyball championship.
